Description
The ubiquitous media player from Microsoft has been an integral part of the Windows operating system since the days of Windows 98. Since then, the player has evolved into a ‘plays all’ software that has also, on the way, integrated online features and library management among others. In its current avatar, Windows Media Player offers a very clean and good looking interface but leaves out a couple of features that other media players include.
Installing WMP 11 on your system requires you to validate your copy of Windows online (and it will only work on Windows XP upwards). So if you are running an illegitimate copy, then you are out of luck.
Although WMP 11 supports common codecs like MP3 and MPEG-1 and 2, it does not come with enough codecs out of the box. The CD ripping feature is quite good since you are given the option of ripping to both MP3 and WAV with options on the bitrates.
We think Windows Media Player 11 offers enough features as a valid choice for a default media player. But then again, other players do offer more.
