Amazon's new Kindle rachets up e-reader price battle

Amazon announced a new Kindle this week with dramatic improvements over its predecessors. It has an enhanced display, faster navigation and an entirely redesigned chassis. The new Kindle is 15% lighter and 21 percent smaller than the second generation model, and still better, it is aggressively priced.
The 6-inch screen offers a 20% faster refresh rate over older models and the device can now store 3500 books. It weighs just 8.7 ounces or about 250 grams. Amazon claims that the Kindle has up to one month of battery life with the wireless turned off. With it on, battery life is up to 10 days.

The company has priced the new Kindle aggressively, the Wifi and 3G version will cost 189 US dollars, while the wifi only model will be 139 dollars, that's 10 dollars less than Barnes and Noble's wifi only Nook.Kindle owners will have access to more than 630,000 books, most of which are under 10 dollars. The new Kindle is available for preorder now and will ship on August 27 to customers in more than 140 counties.
