E3:Nintendo debuts 3DS, a portable 3D gaming device

At the E3 game conference on Tuesday Nintendo unveiled the 3DS, a handheld gaming system that includes one screen that can display images in 3D without having to wear glasses.

Satoru Iwata, President, Nintendo, “ Here on this bar we have installed a 3D slider to adjust the 3D effect. You can maximize it or you can remove the 3D alto her. Or you can choose any degree in between simply by moving the slider. Of the two screens only the bottom one is touch sensitive, since Iwata said that 3D and touch don't work well together.  We realized that finger marks and other smudges reduce the 3D impact. In other words a touch screen and a 3D screen do not get along very well. Because of this we decided to employ a touch screen only on the bottom. Another addition on the 3DS is a slide pad about the directional pad as well as motion and gyro sensors. The 3DS also got 2 extra camera lenses.  We have not one but two camera lenses on the back. What this means is that you can take and view pictures in 3D”.

He didn't say whether the pictures would be viewable on any other devices. Also kept secret was the pricing and availability of the 3DS.
