IFA:LG debuts 31-inch OLED that's 2.9 mm thick

LG introduced a 31-inch OLED television that’s just 2.9 mm thick and capable of playing both 2D and 3D images. On display at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin the AMOLED screen has a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and has a folding stand so that it can either sit on a table top or be wall mounted.

OLED is a flat-panel display technology that uses an organic material that emits its own lights, so no backlight is needed. That means the displays can be made much thinner and consume less power than other technologies.

Sony was the first consumer electronics company to bring an OLED to market, the XEL-1 with an 11 inch screen that is 3 millimeters thick.
The LG OLED will most likely be quite expensive, though the company wouldn’t discuss pricing or availability
