Optimize Your Windows 7 Speed
Madana Prathap 17 Aug 2010Towards Customizing a Lean and Mean OS for Yourself
A lot of people are purchasing Windows 7 compatible hardware and moving to this new OS. How can you ensure that you are squeezing every last ounce out of your hard-earned purchase? Create your own edition of Windows 7, that is how!
Microsoft sells pre-defined editions of Windows 7, and you buy the edition that most suits your needs. But even the edition you do buy might have a lot of crud left behind in it. Remove what you don’t need, customize what you do use, and disable features that get in your way, to extract more performance out of your system, reduce the space used on your hard disk, and lower memory usage.
Using tools like vLite, it is possible to do so. You can rip components out so that they don’t even install in the first place. Removing Internet Explorer to reduce memory usage and improve system security is old hat now. Some “features” may hold no utility for you, like handwriting/speech recognition, indexing service, system restore, fax and scan, the built-in games, etc. Just remove them! You can also integrate OS updates, device drivers, disable system services, provide install details and create your own customized CD/DVD.
The result will be your very own Windows 7 disc, tuned for performance and working exactly the way you want it to from the very first moment after installation.
