Okay Google, let the air out of that balloon and slow down that self-driving car. Your I/O developers conference starts Thursday, so this is a perfect time to remind you about a few products of yours that still need attention. You know, the more established services that some of us have been using since Day Zero and, frankly, they're still not quite there--or they've gotten worse.
Spotify took the wraps off its new app at a major New York press event last week that featured appearances from D'Angelo, Questlove, DJ Tiësto, and Broad City stars Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. Streaming music's dominant player spared no expense to prove that it's the company to beat.
Tim Cook called the Apple Watch his company's "most personal device yet," and the smartwatch is already promising to shakeup our notion of finding love on-the-go. Talk about wearing your heart on your wrist.
Third-party running apps are at a disadvantage on the Apple Watch. They don't have access to the watch's sensors, which means they can't accurately measure the intensity of your workout and calculate how many calories you burned. They also require some initial setup on your iPhone to make sure they're tracking the information you want on your wrist, whereas the watch's native Workout app just, well, works. The nail in the coffin: You can't use them when you leave your phone behind.

The other day my daughter was frustrated by her math homework. She was plotting x and y coordinates onto a grid, but a few of her answers just didn't line up. I suggested that we check her work, and in the back of my mind I recalled that there might be a quick way to do that right on my Mac.
On Tuesday, researchers from Skycure disclosed at the RSA conference that a previously known iOS flaw related to automatic Wi-Fi network connection and a newly discovered SSL certificate handling error could cause an iPhone or iPad to crash and endlessly reboot as long as it remains within range of the network. (Skycure sells monitoring and mitigation systems.)
Philippe Kahn is a big man with a big personality and big feelings about Swiss watches. He's got a massive Alpina model on his wrist, and he's bragging about how the watch is water-resistant down to 100 meters, and can last more than two years on its built-in battery.
Anything that speeds up email communication in Microsoft Outlook has to be a bonus. Typing and retyping the same paragraphs, the same information, explanations, directions, instructions, and so on is half the problem--one that can be easily solved with these five, easy, time-saving tips.
