Acer joined the tablet bandwagon along with the likes of Apple, Samsung, Motorola, RIM and LG when the company showcased the Acer Iconia Tab A100, A500 and W500 tablets at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year. The A100 and A500 are Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) based tablets and the W500 is the Window 7 version. The Acer Iconia Tab A500 has released in India and retails for Rs. 27,990.

Let us take a look at the Android-based tablets A100 and A500.

The 7 inch Acer Iconia Tab A100 is the smaller one among the two and competes directly with 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab, which is already in the market. The major difference between the two is Acer's tablet does not provide voice call support on a GSM network whereas the Galaxy Tab can be used to make voice calls. The A100 runs on 1 Ghz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 and comes with 512MB RAM. It also sports a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera for video calls over Wi-Fi/3G.

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is the 10.1 inch variant. It has 1GB RAM and comes in storage capacities of 16GB/32GB. However, if you wish to increase the memory you build upon it via the microSD slot. The A500 also has a higher resolution of 1024x800 pixels and is also capable of 10-point multi-touch tracking as against the A100 which has a 5-point multi-touch tracking capabilities.

Though the A500 is already in the market, the A100's release has been delayed until the second quarter 2011. Watch this space for more updates.
