Airtel: iPhone 4 launch in India by October
19 Jul 2010
According to reports, Airtel reiterated its plans to launch the iPhone 4 in India by October later this year. In June, Vodafone was the first telecom carrier to signal its intention to bring the iPhone 4 to India around the same time.
According to a Times of India report, Bharti Airtel CEO Sanjay Kapoor told reporters that Airtel was working with Apple to launch the iPhone 4 in the "September-October timeframe." That tentative timeline is right in line with Apple's official statement on the iPhone 4 to "roll out worldwide to 88 countries by the end of September."
The fact that Airtel might introduce the iPhone 4 in India doesn't come as a surprise as the telecom carrier did introduce the iPhone 3G in India a couple of years back. In light of the iPhone 4 launch around October, we should expect prices to drop on the iPhone 3GS which is currently retailing in two Airtel flavors for Rs. 35,500 (16GB version) and Rs. 41,000 (32GB version).
