Airtel to Upgrade Broadband for Free

Airtel is upgrading speeds of all its existing customers (on 64, 128, 256 Kbps) to a minimum of 512 kbps and those on 512 kbps plans and 1mbps plans to 1Mbps and 2Mbps respectively. These announcements were made through a press release that we came across on the blog- Techwhack. According to the release, the upgrades come at no extra cost to existing Airtel customers and will be completed by June 2010 across India. Airtel also announced the launch of ‘Impatience Plans’, by offering 4 Mbps speed plans starting at Rs. 899 per month.

The release quotes K Srinivas, Joint President-Telemedia Services, Bharti Airtel, “We are delighted to provide superior internet browsing experience to our customers through these high speed plans. Massifying (sic) broadband experience in India has been the pivotal to Airtel’s strategy for Broadband. These initiatives bring in a new paradigm for broadband in India.”

The Impatience Plans will be available in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore and the details are below:

Impatience 899
Speed: 4 Mbps till 6GB
Cost: Rs. 899

Impatience 1099
Speed: 4 Mbps till 12GB
Cost: Rs. 1099

Impatience 1399
Speed: 4 Mbps till 25GB
Cost: Rs. 1399

Impatience 1799
Speed: 4 Mbps till 50GB
Cost: Rs. 1799

After reaching the data transfer limit, the user has two options- continue browsing at 256kbps or browse at the same speeds for 10 paisa per MB of data.
