Apple yesterday launched a whole range of new iPod Touch with a front and rear-facing camera, smaller iPod Nano 6G with multitouch screen, and new iPod Shuffles.

In an Apple musi-centric event, Steve Jobs called it the "biggest change in the iPod lineup ever," when the company launched new iPods which will hit stores next week in the U.S. and are available for preorder.

The new iPod Touch 4G
The new Apple iPod Touch is slimmer than previous iPod Touch -- it measures 4.4-by-2.3-by-0.28 inches and weighs 102 gm. Chief among the new iPod Touch's features are new front and rear-facing cameras to the latest iPod touch. The new iPod Touch's camera can capture still images and HD 720p videos, and has the iPhone 4G's 1-GHz A4 processor and retina display with an image density of 326 pixels-per-inch, and a 3-axis gyroscope for improved gameplay.

New iPod Touch

The new iPod Touch's multitouch screen supports 640x960 pixel resolution. The new iPod Touch also supports FaceTime, Apple’s video chat feature that was first introduced to the iPhone 4 earlier this year. The new 8GB iPod Touch is priced at $229 versus the previous iPod Touch price tag of $199. Pricing for other new iPod Touch versions remains the same at $299 (32GB) and $399 (64GB).

India Price Update: The new iPod Touch will be available next week for a suggested retail price of Rs. 15,400 for the 8GB model, Rs. 19,900 for the 32GB model and Rs. 25,900 for the 64GB model through Apple Authorised Resellers.

New iPod Nano 6G: Multitouch screen
The new iPod Nano is Apple's most radical product design change this year -- the new iPod Touch's hardware notwithstanding. The new iPod Nano 6G doesn't have a camera introduced with the iPod Nano 5G last year. The new iPod Nano is also a lot smaller (1.48-inches tall) compared to older iPod Nano 5G at 3.6-inches.

new iPod Nano 6G multitouch screenIf you're mad about Apple shelving the new iPod Nano 6G's camera, then there's reason to be happy as the new iPod Nano 6G gets it's first multitouch screen with 240x240 pixel resolution. The new iPod Nano 6G has a smaller screen compared to previous iPod Nano 5G -- but the iPod Nano 6G's screen has improved 220-ppi density over the previous Nano's 204 ppi. Pricing remains the same -- $149 for new iPod Nano 6G 8GB and $179 for new iPod Nano 6G 16GB.

India Price Update: The new iPod Nano 6G will be available next week for a suggested retail price of Rs. 10,700 for the 8GB model and suggested retail price of Rs. 12,700 for the 16GB model.

New iPod Shuffle 4G
New iPod ShuffleThe new Apple iPod Shuffle 4G has shrunk down in height -- 1.14-inches from 1.8-inches on the iPod Shuffle 3G. But the new Shuffle is a little bit heavier. The new Shuffle also gets a bump in battery life claims up from 10 hours in generation three to 15 hours in generation four.

Pricing for the previous Shuffle was $59 for 2GB and $79 for 4GB. Apple has dropped the 4GB iPod Shuffle version, and is now offering only the 2GB Shuffle at $49.

India Price Update: The fourth generation iPod Shuffle 4G will be available next week for a suggested retail price of Rs. 3,200 for a 2GB model in silver, blue, green, orange and pink through Apple Authorised Resellers. The iPod Shuffle comes with Apple Earphones and the iPod shuffle USB cable.

Is Apple killing the iPod Classic?
You may have noticed that Apple left the iPod Classic out of its iPod revamp, but don't worry Classic fans Apple is still selling the device. The Classic may be an old design, but it is still king when it comes to storage offering 160GB over the iPod Touch's maximum of 64GB.
