Apple sells 1.7 million iPhone 4 in three days

PC World Team 29 Jun 2010

It has not been even a week since it hit the shelves, Apple has reported that sales of iPhone 4 already crossed 1.7 million mark. Sales of the previous iPhone 3GS in the same time period was 1 million a year ago. " This is the most successful product launch in Apple's history", said Steve Jobs. " Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because they did not have enough supply."

It's a surprise that despite the problem customers faced during pre-ordering system and while many could not get their iPhones, Apple still managed to provide more than 1.7 million iPhone 4s. There were reports on shortage of iPhone 4 supply earlier, but it has become clear now what  caused this issue.

Currently, iPhone 4 is available in only five countries and the white iPhone 4 is also not ready for the masses yet. With all these things in consideration, the sales figure is sure to head north.

The new iPhone 4 features FaceTime, which makes video calling easy, and Apple’s new Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone, resulting in stunning text, images and video, the company claims. iPhone 4 also features a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, HD 720p video recording, Apple’s A4 processor, a 3-axis gyro and up to 40 percent longer talk time—in a new design of glass and stainless steel. Apple claims that this is the thinnest smartphone in the world.

iPhone 4 comes with iOS 4, the newest version of Apple's mobile operating system, which features Multitasking, Folders, enhanced Mail, deeper Enterprise support and Apple’s new iAd mobile advertising platform.

iPhone 4 is expected to come in India in September later this year.
