HTC has announced the availability of HTC Desire smartphone in India. This phone runs on Android 2.1 (Eclair) and has HTC Sense. HTC Desire has a 3.7-inch touch-sensitive screen with the capability of pinch-to-zoom. HTC has priced this phone at Rs. 28,900 for India, which we feel is a bit overpriced.

Specifications:
Let us first check the special features of the phone. The phone will automatically reduce the volume of the ringer as soon as it senses that you have picked the phone. Another interesting thing is that if you keep the phone in a face down position, it automatically mutes the ringer. Also, the phone automatically backs up certain data and setting such as SMS/MMS messages, bookmarks, Wi-Fi passwords to microSD card.

HTC Desire has a screen resolution of 480x800 WVGA. It has a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash, and various other functions like face detection capability, widescreen photo capture and geotagging. The phone can take pictures at 2592x1944 pixels and shoot videos at 800x480 pixels (15 FPS). The phone supports music player and FM radio and has both audio as well as video recording options. The playback supported for audio include aac, .amr, .ogg, .m4a, .mid, mp3, .wav, .wma, while the playback for video include 3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .wmv. HTC Desire also allows you to integrate Facebook with your phone. You can also share photos on Facebook, Flickr and Twitter, and videos on YouTube.

The HTC Desire uses 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and has 512 MB of ROM and 576 MB of RAM. In terms of storage, the phone comes with 4 GB of microSD card and the memory can be further extended up to 32 GB. The phone also has 3.5mm stereo audio jack and a standard micro-USB and Bluetooth 2.1. HTC Desire can access internet through 3G, GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi. It is a 3G ready phone and supports WCDMA and GSM.

Like any other HTC phone, the HTC Desire comes with HTC Widgets, which has various applications for Bookmarks, Calendar, Clock, Footprints, Friend Stream, Mail, Messages, Music, News, People, Photo Album, Photo Frame, Search, Settings, Stocks, Twitter, Weather, and you can download even more. The phone supports various sensors such as G-Sensor, Digital compass (has internal GPS antenna), Proximity sensor, and Ambient light sensor.

The phone looks solid and the Android OS makes it much more exciting. This phone is HTC’s version of Nexus One. So if you were waiting for Nexus One to come to India and feeling bad because Google has stopped its production, then this phone should be the perfect replacement.

HTC has tied up with TATA DOCOMO to offer 500 MB of data free for six months, provided that you buy it with a TATA DOCOMO connection.
