31 Aug 2010
There are just a few mid-range budget Android phones currently available today. Among them, the hottest and most feature-packed phones are the HTC Wildfire, SE Xperia X10 mini pro and the Samsung Galaxy 3. Let’s find out which one scores the best among them in terms of what they offer.
Processor
Here the Samsung Galaxy 3 packed the fastest processor which clocks at 667MHz followed by X10 mini pro which has a 600MHz processor. The HTC Wildfire falls behind with its 528MHz processor.
Memory
The HTC Wildfire has 384MB RAM and 512MB ROM while the Samsung Galaxy 3 has slightly lesser 256MB RAM but similar 512MB ROM. For the SE Xperia X10 mini pro, the only disclose the internal memory which is a paltry 128MB. All of them support microSD support.
Screen
In terms of screen size HTC Wildfire and Samsung Galaxy 3 offered the biggest, a 3.2-inch screen while the compact Xperia X10 mini pro has 2.6-inch. All screens are of capacitive touchscreen supporting 16M colors.
One disappointment we have with most of the mid-range Android phones is with their resolution packed which seems
The highest resolution packed is the Samsung Galaxy 3 which has 240 x 400 pixels while the Wildfire and Xperia X10 mini pro offer QVGA resolution.
All of them come with proximity and accelerometer sensor.
Interface
The Galaxy 3 uses Samsung own TouchWiz 3.0, Wildfire uses the HTC Sense while X10 mini pro has Sony Ericsson’s custom UI with Timescape which is optimized for small screen. All works well and no one has much drawbacks either. The interface is something subjective, so we reserve that space for users.
Messaging
The X10Â mini pro offered the best typing experience due to its full-fledged QWERTY keyboard but typing on the Galaxy 3 and HTC Wildfire onscreen keyboard offered decent experience as well.
Camera
Both the HTC Wildfire and Xperia X10 mini pro have 5MP camera with auto focus and LED flash while the Galaxy 3 offers lesser 3.15MP camera with autofocus but no LED flash. Geo -tagging is supported by all the phones; smile detection is featured on both the Galaxy 3 and the HTC Wildfire. Â
Video recording is not really impressive on these Android phones with the Xperia X10 min pro leading with VGA (640 x 480) video recording at 30fps. The Galaxy records only QVGA (320 x240) at 15fps while the HTC Wildfire cannot handle more than 352 x 288 pixels at 15fps.
Media Playback
Samsung Galaxy 3 plays DivX and XviD out of the box which would require third party apps for the Xperia X10 mini pro and HTC Wildfire. Apart from these, the rest of the formats like MP3, WAV, AAC, WMA, MP4 etc are played by all.
GPS
Onboard GPS receiver is present in all the three phones and Xperia X10 mini pro packs Wisepilot apart from Google maps the Galaxy 3 and HTC Wildfire come with only Google maps.
Battery
The Galaxy 3 packs 1500mAh Li-Ion battery while the HTC Wildfire comes with a 1300mAh Li-Ion battery. The Xperia X10 mini pro packs the least of all which is just rated at 930 mAh.
