Intel is looking at aggressively promoting its Ultrabook at this year's Intel Developer Forum (IDF), which begins today at San Francisco. According to IDG News Service, Intel is also planning to display ultrabooks and tablets running Windows 8 at both IDF and Microsoft’s BUILD conference, which starts today at Anaheim, California.

The ultrabooks and tablets planned to be displayed at IDF and BUILD are expected to be based on new Atom processors.

Intel’s aim by displaying Windows 8 OS on various devices is to garner support from the developers for the OS on the x86 platform. Microsoft Windows 8 OS will also be available on ARM based devices comprising mainly tablets and smartphones.

Intel is trying to improve its presence in the tablet market where ARM chips currently rule the roost. However, Intel dominates the PC market but fears that sales of tablets and laptops are affecting the sale of PCs. Intel hopes to rekindle the interest in its products by promoting the Ultrabook, also described as the thin and lightweight alternative to the Macbook Air.

ARM is also trying to oust Intel’s dominance in the PC segment by using Microsoft’s Windows 8, which veers highly towards a touch-based interface in PC architecture. Nvidia and Texas Instruments (TI) who make chips based on ARM architecture are planning to use their technologies in laptops. Nvidia’s next generation quad-core Tegra chips, code-named Kal El are also expected to power Windows 8 without hiccups. These chips are due to ship by the end of this year for tablets and PCs.
