Motorola has just launched the Motorola Milestone XT720 in India. The phone was announced in June and was available in U.S. stores by July. We are glad to see that the phone has made its way to India in just a month’s time. The Motorola Droid X was launched in May and we are not sure when it will be available in India, but seeing how quickly the Motorola Milestone XT720 arrived here, we think we might be able to get our hands on it sometime this year. Here we will compare the specifications of the Motorola Droid X and the Motorola Milestone XT720 to see which one fares better.

Under the hood

The Motorola Droid X runs on a 1GHz processor from TI OMAP, while the Motorola Milestone XT720 runs on an ARM Cortex A8 550MHz processor. Both the handsets run on Android 2.1 (Eclair) operating system but the Droid X has the option to be upgraded to 2.2 later this year. The Motorola Milestone XT720 has 150MB of internal memory but comes with an 8GB card. The external memory can be extended up to 32GB. The Droid X has 8GB of internal memory and 16GB microSD card pre-installed. The external memory can be extended up to 32GB for the Droid X. In terms of battery life, the Droid X has a 1540 mAh Li Ion battery with the usage time of 480 mins, while the Motorola Milestone XT720 has a 1390 mAh Li Ion and supports a 270 mins talktime for 3G network and 540 mins for GSM network.

Display and Multimedia

Motorola is pushing the 8 megapixel camera and 720p HD video recording feature as the main selling point of the Milestone XT720. Well, the Droid X has both these specifications as well. Another place the Droid X beats the Milestone XT720 is the display size. The Droid X has a 4.3-inch TFT screen, while the Milestone XT720 has a 3.7-inch TFT screen. Motorola has made Droid X even slimmer than its predecessor. The Droid X has dimensions of 65.5 x 127.5 x 9.9 mm, while the Milestone XT720 has dimensions of 60.9 x 115.95 x 10.9 mm.

Other Features

Connectivity and network features of both the phones are similar. There was a lot of difference in the sensor support for both the phones. Both Droid X and Milestone XT720 feature Proximity, ambient light and eCompass sensors, but Droid X also has a 3 axis Accelerometer, OpenGL ES 2.0 support and 2D/3D accelerator for Graphics.

Motorola has announced that Motorola Milestone XT720 is available at the price of Rs. 34,990 in India. However, online retailers like Univercell are already listing the phone at a price around Rs. 27,000. Whenever Droid X does come in India, although it probably won't reach the price point similar to that of iPhone 4 (above 40k) but we still expect it to be priced at a point much higher than the XT720. The Droid X does beat the Milestone XT720 in most of the specifications. The only difference is one is available in India, and we have no clue when the next one will be here.
