Nokia N8: The Best Camera Phone Ever?
01 Sep 2010
That’s what the folks at Nokia claimed at the special exclusive preview of the latest Nokia N8 handset at the Nokia Research Center at Bangalore yesterday.
We must admit, the claim is not just another bold marketing spiel by Nokia, the N8 does have a smarter camera and superior imaging hardware that puts it right on top with the best camera phones in the market.
What makes the Nokia N8 the best camera phones ever as per Nokia?
1) A larger sensor (1/1.83-inch) compared to traditional CCD sensors found inside latest phones today.
2) A mechanical shutter, similar to dedicated digital cameras, ensures better response.
3) Xenon flash provides better range and also gives out evenly lit(bright) images.
4) ND filter for better handling of bright light conditions.
5) HD Video recording (720p @ 25fps) in H.264 format with AAC stereo.
6) HDMI out (cable supplied), connect the phone to your LCD TV for viewing photos and movies directly.
What we feel could have been included to make it even better
1) Lens cover is missing, why Nokia, why?
2) No touch to focus, a handy feature that we like in the Samsung Galaxy S.
3) Some kind of Image stabilization? Just to take it even close to Digital Cameras.
Nonetheless, the Nokia N8 impressed us with its imaging capabilities and if the pricing is right, the Nokia N8 will catch the fancy of many prospective buyers wanting a good imaging phone with all modern day high-end features.
Expect the phone to hit the stores in September; pricing should be around Rs. 25,000. Though, the indicated price for Europe is 465 Euros which is more like Rs. 22,000.
