One million phone calls over Gmail in a day
27 Aug 2010
Touted as a Skype competitor, the new feature launched by Google which lets users in U.S make calls via their Gmail's chat system about 24 hours ago seems to be creating waves. Google announced on Twitter that Gmail users have made more than a million calls within 24 hours since the free PC-to-phone call Gmail service was launched.
Even though this doesn't necessarily mean more than one million people are using the service, it is quite obvious that the new feature is not just another add-on but rather a must-have feature among plethora of Google services.
The new VoIP service allows users to make calls to any number in the US or Canada for free and as for now, this feature is available only to the US users. The free service seems to attract a lot of users and international calls rate seems to be quite affordable too.
Needless to say, the free phone VOIP Gmail service has generated a lot of hype around the Web since Google unveiled it on Wednesday.
