Playboy's iPad App Shows No Skin

Playboy magazine has agreed to remove all risque content from its iPad application in order to avoid breaching Apple's strict anti-obscenity rules, reports The Telegraph.

A high definition version of Hugh Hefner's iconic magazine will be strictly nipple-free, with the popular Playmate of the Month restricted to a tasteful head and shoulders shot, according to the newspaper.

MinOnline, a media focused website that has seen the iPad version of Playboy, adds the digital version is missing many pictorials and oddly a number of cartoons. "Playboy's situation is not to be envied in the App Store. Apple itself seems to be banning nudity, so the publisher has to come up with something that appears to deliverer value without delivering the 'goods' as many readers define it," writes MinOnline's Steve Smith. "The result is almost a full issue at a premium price. The problem for Playboy is that the missing pieces are so obvious because they are so well known."

Smith adds the Playboy iPad application lacks any dynamic digital content, little interactivity and only one 30-second video interview clip.

Playboy already offers a 59p version of Playboy for iPhone and iPod Touch users, although the last issue is dated July 2010 in the Apple iTunes App Store.
