Samsung Galaxy S Smartphone Camera Tested
20 Aug 2010
The Samsung i9000 Galaxy S is rapidly gaining popularity with its near perfect mix of "android+great large screen+multimedia powerhouse+superior connectivity options+excellent imaging capabilities". While we covered all of these in our detailed review, we decided to carry out an extended imaging test by comparing it to a standard digital camera.
We compared the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S to the Panasonic Lumix ZR1. While it is a 12.1MP camera, we shot all the images at 5MP resolution (the same as the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S) to ensure a fair comparison with respect to the megapixel count.
Images were captured setting both the devices in "auto" mode and forcing the flash to "off". You can click on the images below to view the full resolution samples.

Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy S cannot beat a modern day digital camera at any resolution. However, as a phone that packs in a 5MP camera, the results are impressive. You can certainly get good 4"x5" prints out of the digital images captured using this mobile phone, the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S.
