Sony: Focus on 3D, Blu-ray home entertainment products
10 Sep 2010Sony India is going to focus on 3D, Blu-ray home entertainment solutions and products in India -- through Blu-ray products, TVs, cameras, PlayStation, movies and games. Sony also plans to promote 3D culture for Indian consumers by marketing aggressively in the coming months.
Sony thinks 3D, Blu-ray products will constitute 30-percent of its revenue in India by 2012. Sony India is introducing 3D technology in 4K projector with lens, professional cameras, Bravia LCD TVs, Blu-ray disc players, digital still cameras & PS3 gaming console. Sony has also also allocated Rs. 50-crore for promoting these 3D home entertainment solutions and products in the country.
Sony's Blu-ray players -- like the Sony BDP-S370 Blu-ray Disc Player -- are priced at Rs. 9,990, its PS3 Slim 120GB gaming console sells at Rs. 19,990 -- important pieces in Sony's initiative to push Blu-ray content in India. The Sony PS3 may soon offer 3D content, and so will, no doubt, other Sony products to be launched in the near future. Similarly, Sony will also unveil 3D Bravia LCD and HDTVs, projectors, professional and still cameras, and inevitably 3D movies and other 3D content in the country.
Mr. Masaru Tamagawa, Managing Director, Sony India, said, "We plan to become the market leader of 3D on account of providing the most comprehensive range of 3D products & content solutions. Sony group of companies have come together with a wealth of technology and engineering resources spanning both professional and consumer markets. This will enable us to bring the optimum 3D exposure to the Indian market. He added, "Indian consumer is willing to experiment and hence we have high hopes from this technology."
Sony's announcement to give 3D entertainment a push in India comes closely on the heels of Panasonic's announcement to expand the pool of 3D, Blu-ray entertainment products in the country. Panasonic recently showcased their entire portfolio of 3D technology products to Bollywood big-wigs. Panasonic also launched its first consumer 3D camcorder internationally, showcasing its features at the U.S. Open earlier last week.
