Toshiba has unveiled 128-gigabyte (GB) embedded NAND flash memory module, which it claims is the highest capacity yet achieved in the industry. This flash memory module is designed to be a better memory substitute for devices like smartphones, tablet PCs and digital video cameras. The size of the NAND flash memory module is 17 x 22 x 1.4mm. Toshiba has managed to integrate sixteen 64Gbit (equal to 8GB) NAND chips along with Toshiba's 32nm process technology and a dedicated controller into this new flash memory module.

Toshiba in its press release says that the embedded NAND flash memory module meets the e.MMC standard for Interface, Power Supply Voltage, Bus width, Write Speed, Read Speed and Temperature range. This new module has been designed for two capacities, 128 GB and 64 GB.

Toshiba has announced that the 64 GB samples of the new memory module will be available in August, while the 128 GB samples would be available in September. However, the mass production will only start from the fourth quarter of 2010.
