Wink XTS eBook Reader Launched in India

EC Media International, a Bangalore based company, has launched the Wink XTS e-book reader in India. The Wink XTS is the second such device launched in India by an Indian company, the first being the Infibeam Pi e-book reader that was launched earlier this year.
According to a press release, the Wink XTS supports 15 Indian languages and users can access e-books, journals, newspapers and magazine articles (subscription based) at www.thewinkstore.com. At last check, there were 197,606 e-books available for download from a wide variety of genres, publishers and authors.
The Wink XTS eBook reader has a 6-inch display (that uses E-Ink technology) with 800x600 resolution and 16 shade grayscale. The Wink runs on a 400MHz Samsung processor and uses a Linux based OS. The Wink supports multiple document formats including PDF, DOC, RTF, HTML and TXT. It also supports multimedia formats such as BMP, JPG, TIF, PNG, GIF, MP3 and AAC. The Wink has 2GB of onboard memory and supports microSD cards up to 16GB. The Wink also has a 3.5mm jack for plugging in headphones and a USB 2.0 port. The Wink also supports Wi-Fi and boasts of other features such as a QWERTY keyboard, built-in games and a memo pad.
The Wink XTS eBook reader will be available from sometime next month for Rs. 11,490 and you can purchase it from any Croma outlet. Also, be on the lookout for the Wink X3G, an eBook reader with 3G support also due to hit stores soon.
