Acer H235H

Full Review
A 23-inch LCD monitor, the Acer H235H touts a matte screen, unlike its glossy sibling, the Acer H233H we reviewed in June. The Acer H235H's feature highlights include full-HD 1920x1080 resolution support, an HDMI port, and in-built speakers.
The TN panel screen is encased in glossy plastic--dark blue behind and jet black around the bezel and stand. The Acer H235H's black-on-blue color scheme is pleasing to see, rather than monotonous, all-black monitors. The unit has curved edges and have speakers placed uniquely below the bottom edge. The ports (HDMI, DVI, VGA, Audio-out, and power) are neatly hidden in a sort of compartment, behind a plastic panel which slides open on its back. There are also two nifty grooves, on either side of the ports compartment, which allows directing wires through them. In short, the Acer H235H doesn't compromise on looks for cable management.

The monitor ON-OFF switch is located on the Acer H235H's right edge. There you'll also find a column of touch-sensitive buttons--glowing blue--useful for launching the monitor's on-screen control panel. Here you can tweak around its color settings, and adjust the speaker volume. After calibrating the monitor, we tested it on DisplayMate. We found that the Acer H235H had lesser brightness (191.3 cd/m2) and full contrast ratio (473:1) in comparison to the Acer H233H. But screen and color uniformity was as good as it gets in TN panels, and backlight bleed was noticeably under control. Viewing angles aren't as good as the Dell 2209WA (which has a superior eIPS panel), but acceptable for a TN panel monitor. We watched a couple high-def (1080p) videos and gamed a bit on the H235H, and couldn't find any blurring or ghosting effect. On-board speakers are also pretty good.
Bottom Line
The Acer H235H doesn't really claim any performance awards--it's a good performer. If you want a good-looking 23-inch monitor, with matte screen, which supports full-HD format and comes with decent onboard speakers, for Rs. 9,100, the Acer H235H is a very good contender.
