Full Review
The Eee PC 1000HE distinguishes itself from the rest of the pack in more ways than one. First and foremost, it provided the second most battery backup of 6 hours 50 minutes flat while browsing the Web over Wi-Fi with full screen brightness; an impressive achievement for a netbook. Also, it offers hybrid storage: 30GB of online storage on top of its 160GB hard drive, a unique feature that remains unmatched in our Top 5.
In terms of usability, its chiclet keyboard is well laid out, despite its small form factor compared to the Acer Aspire O751h. Its touchpad doesn't support multiple gestures, but it's large and responsive, and the mouse buttons are well-defined and easy to use. The Asus Eee PC 1000HE's based on the Intel Atom N280 1.6-GHz processor, which improves power efficiency over the older Atom N270 processor, thus contributing to extended battery life. Coupled with the processor is 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, and a 10.2-inch matte screen. A 1.3MP webcam is recessed on the top screen bezel, with microphone grooves on the bottom screen bezel just above the hinge. Also it's one of the few netbooks which supports Draft-n Wi-Fi.
The Eee PC 1000HE also comes with various performance presets: Power save, High, and Super Performance, which lets you prioritize between performance or battery life, depending on what you're doing. Worldbench pegged its overall performance at 36, which is pretty good for a netbook. The Eee PC 1000HE is very well built, with the screen and rest of the chassis fused together by a solid central tubular hinge. It isn't too flashy in terms of looks either, with its all-black glossy finish, making it ideal for home as well as business usage. Between the keyboard and the hinge, there's a strip of quicklaunch buttons for turning of display, squeezing in a 1024x768 screen resolution, and browsing through the performance presets. We think the Eee PC 1000HE has very few blemishes against its name. And compared to most netbooks out there, the Eee PC 1000HE gets it spot on in terms of the big picture: price, performance features and design.
Bottom Line
The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is one of the best Asus netbook out there, with its 10.1-inch screen. You can squeeze up to 8 hours of nonstop usage from its 6-cell battery, and it has a pretty large touchpad to work with. Slightly expensive compared to the
