Full Review

If you are looking for a normal printer that delivers average performance and a below average feature set, the Canon Laser Shot LBP-5050N would do just fine. But the high asking price coupled with the running cost is what might deter most buyers from choosing this product.

The Canon has only 16MB RAM and also doesn’t give the option of expanding it. It also scored fairly poorly in the other areas. The only silver lining here is the network management feature set, with a very good implementation of print usage logs and a very user friendly mode of permitting and restricting access depending on a particular IP or a Range of IP Addresses.

The high asking price coupled with the running cost is what might deter most buyers from choosing this product.

The 11ppm for black text page is quite low for a laser printer. Its printing speed for an A4 color print was quite fast with 40 seconds even though it was in the slower side for the PowerPoint slides and Excel sheets print test. And it took the prize for the overall print quality test with good text and image reproduction. It has the best prints in terms of good contrast against paper and could reproduce more image details than the other printers could manage.

Bottom Line

If you prefer to get high quality prints from a laser printer and doesn’t mind the high cost of running, you could still choose this printer if it suits your needs.
