Full Review
The Casio Exilim EX-Z400 is a well-featured compact camera that has a 28mm wide angle lens with 4x optical zoom and a large 3-inch LCD screen. Image stabilization is provided in the form of CCD shift anti-shake mechanism and it supports recording HD (720p) at 24 fps.
Compared to the other cameras (with the exception of the Fujifilm F200), the EXILIM EX-Z400 was on the bulky side. There are just a few control buttons and also has various Best Shots modes available for different scenes. It also has a one touch video recording button. The interface was easy to navigate and the controls placement was easy to get used to.
The Casio EXILIM EX-Z400 reproduces color well and has HD video, but, at this price, is no match for the Sony TX1.
The camera was quick to focus but the amount of shutter lag was unimpressive at around 3 seconds. This annoying delay will be a major downer if you happen to be taking candid shots. Image quality on the other hand showed balanced colors with good exposure. But a purple fringe was more noticeable than the other cameras and low light photo beyond ISO 200 has unacceptable noise levels. The image stabilization did not really help to sharpen shaky images.
The HD video recorded showed good colors and very little noise, but at times there were issues with a drop in frame rates making the video a bit jerky. Overall, the Casio Exilim was priced a tad high at Rs.18,995 and is not really the best camera this kind of price tag can buy you.
Bottom Line
The Casio EXILIM EX-Z400 reproduced color well and gives the option of HD video, but, at this price, the performance is no match for the Sony
