We have criticized Epson in the past for projectors with not-so-bright images, and so the EB-S6 was a breath of fresh air.

It looks very similar to other Epson projectors, but the lamp inside is a lot brighter. This in turn translates to a really bright image. In fact, though it’s rated at 2200 Lumens, it seems brighter.

Epson has a distinct design, with a nice sliding door that turns off the lamp and mutes audio when closed. This lets you use it like a pause button in the middle of a presentation, though of course a ceiling mount would render this feature useless. The EB-S6 has a quick start option with a USB cable.

With the included software installed on a system, you don’t even need to connect a VGA cable—the software uses USB to get the presentation going. This is handy, because VGA cables aren’t the most common item, while USB cables can be found all over the place. The performance tests had the Epson put in a decent performance. Scores were in the middle of the range, for the most part, though it was nice and bright all through.

In the DisplayMate tests, most of the twenty tests saw the Epson score four out of five. The price was a bit on the high side, which is why we had it down in fourth place, but a good performer otherwise.

Bottom Line

Epson comes through with a bright projector, with some unique features.
