Full Review

HP makes printing devices of all sizes and for all purposes. The LaserJet P1007 is built for small workloads, is compact for a laser printer but it does not skimp on quality. It has only one input tray (there’s no manual feed slot) and the tray holds only 150 sheets. The output tray can hold 100 sheets however. With a rated idle power draw of 3 Watt, this LaserJet P1007 is energy efficient as well. This HP took a brief 9 seconds to print the first page of a print job (spool time) and there after average 4.4 seconds per print, giving it a print speed of just under 14 pages per minute, the same as the Xerox Phaser 3117. Text print quality was very good – the edges were sharp and no visible jaggies were present. In our resolution chart test, the LaserJet P1007 gave the best results, being able to very easily reproduce the test patterns that consist of a series of thin lines. When it came to the grayscale image test, the LaserJet P1007 excelled. Image printing is certainly not the prime requirement from printers in this class, but documents and presentations often contain simple images, which this print manages to print noticeably better than the others in our Top 5 charts. Details in darker areas of the image came out very well. Had HP priced this a bit lower, the value proposition would have been higher, especially in the context of the really inexpensive Xerox Phaser 3117.

The LaserJet P1007 is built for small workloads, is compact for a laser printer but it does not skimp on quality.

Bottom Line

Overall good print quality. It has a higher running cost at about Rs.2.10 per page, besides the higher purchase cost compared to the inexpensive Xerox.
