Kodak EasyShare C160
27 Jun 2009Summary
This is the least expensive camera in our Top 5 list, and it does a good job for its asking price. Its major weakness is in low light conditions where you will have to use the flash to get acceptable results. The build quality could have been better, but at its price, you shouldn’t really complain.
Pros:
- Decent image quality for its price
- Speedy response between shots
- Easy to use
- Affordable price
Cons:
- Colors a bit dull
- Artefacts visible at full resolution
Full Review
Kodak knows how to price its cameras, and that sees the EasyShare C160 at the third spot in our podium, scoring over the Nikon and Fuji models. The C160 produces good results for a camera of its price. Outdoor shots weren’t a problem (like with most later generation models), except for slightly washed out colors. In indoor shooting, the camera was surprisingly quick between shots even when the flash was used and multipoint AF enabled. But even here, we noticed the colors being not as vivid as on other cameras. When we choose High Color in the settings, things got better. The EasyShare C160 produced the smallest sized JPEGs, which also means, the camera compresses the image more than others do, so when viewing images at 100% magnification lossy JPEG compression artifacts are telling. The C160 is fairly easy to use – someone who is not used to the Kodak interface should only take about 10 minutes to get used to it. There’s a dedicated button to cycle through flash modes, and a mode dial to select video mode, macro, sports mode, scene and blur reduction mode. This 3x optical zoom camera runs on 2 AA batteries, so you need not worry about running out of juice when you are out on vacation. While the EasyShare C160 is not without flaws, at its price, they can be easily forgiven. If you are on a tight budget looking for a decent shooter, we would not hesitate to recommend this camera.
Bottom Line
This is the least expensive camera in our Top 5 list, and it does a good job for its asking price. Its major weakness is in low light conditions where you will have to use the flash to get acceptable results. The build quality could have been better, but at its price, you shouldn’t really complain.
