LG KU990, also known as the ‘Viewty’, is a full touch screen phone that excels in shooting videos. The Viewty is a compact phone that sports a large 3 inch screen. The display is vibrant and can display 256K colors at a resolution of 240x400. Under sunlight though the screen loses some visibility. The phone sports an all black body with call buttons on the front and dedicated buttons on the side for switching between imaging modes and locking the phone. Apart from the screen, the phone’s well-built body constitutes of metal and matte plastic. The Viewty uses a proprietary OS that is surprisingly easy to use in spite of being entirely touch dependant. The icons that make up the menus are large and easy to navigate between. Also, the Haptic feedback covers up quite well for the absence of tactile buttons. This LG phone easily features one of the best touch based interface we have seen in a non-iPhone device. The Viewty can record videos in DivX, AVI and MPEG and the quality of recording is even better than many entry level digital cameras. The videos we captured had very less noise and were overall impressive. Images shot by the 5 megapixel camera also turned out well although color reproduction was not spot on. Music playback was also quite good although dedicated volume controls and a 3.5mm headphones port were missed. Also, sifting through music using touch needs time to get used to. The LG Viewty KU990 carries a price tag of Rs. 18,450 and for the number of things it does well, that money will be well spent.

The Viewty’s 5MP camera is capable of shooting great videos and producing decent looking photographs.
