Molome (Symbian)
2011-11-14Full Review
A cute orange coloured owl looks at you with eager eyes and invites you. What you do next is upload pictures on Molome using the app. The owl by the way is Molome’s mascot and Molome is a picture uploading app with a social networking twist!
Molome was a Symbian exclusive app once upon a time (now the app is available on Android and Blackberry). The app lets you click pictures on your phone and upload it to the website. It has a strong community and works very similar to Twitter.
Features
Molome is a picture uploading app with a social networking twist!
You need to register in order to upload pictures. Once the basic steps are complete you have five tabs each of which has a different function.
The first tab is the timeline which lets you look at the pictures uploaded by other uses and love or comment on them. The next tab lists the popular photos for the day.
The share tab has a pop-up which lets you take a photo or choose one from the gallery. This is the crux of the app. Once you are done choosing, there are some basic editing features that you can play around with. The only downer is that it takes photos at 600x600 resolution which is passable since you are uploading it online. But I would have liked a choice of options. However, this was the first time I was ever using the app and I must say that I was hooked on to the different effects like a kid with a new toy. It is addictive.
The fourth tab is notification tab which has badges (remember Foursquare?). Since I just started using Molome I got the “Molian Level 1 Egg” badge. These badges provide kicks for those who have been regular users of Foursquare. It doesn’t excite me too much though. But a good feature nonetheless.
The final tab lets you merge your Twitter and Facebook accounts to Molome which is very intuitive and it works wonders.
Conenctivity wise the app worked fine over Wi-Fi and 3G. However, the app is slightly slower if you are using a normal GPRS connection.
User Interface
I always like apps that have a free-flowing design and with Molome, at first look you are reminded of HTC’s Sense UI. I quite like the design. The colours are apt for a non-fussy interface which complements the features of the application.
Download: Symbian, Android and Blackberry.
Bottom Line
Molome is a fun app. It ends at that. Beyond the initial 15 minutes of playing around with the app it all becomes pointless. I eventually ended up uploading my pics on twitter or facebook. However, since this app is free you can definitely check this out for your smartphone.
