The MSI GT663R gaming laptop was announced in India late last year. The MSI GT663R comes with a 16-inch screen, a powerful Intel Core i7 quad-core processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M dedicated graphics -- part of Nvidia's newer Fermi 400M GPUs. What's more, like the MSI GT660, the GT663R comes with Dynaudio speakers, offering one of the best audio experience on a consumer laptop. Audio gaming experience on the MSI GT663R is very good and the laptop comes with a host of latest connectivity features. Let's see what more the MSI GT663R offers.

If there's one exceptionally superlative feature on the MSI GT663, it has to be its onboard Dynaudio speakers.

Black is the dominant color on the MSI GT663R laptop, much like the GT660. With angled edges and glossy, beveled screen lid highlighting a glowing MSI logo at its center, the GT663R does dress like a gaming laptop. Like the Alienware M11x and M17x gaming laptops, the MSI GT660 has flashy LED-light accents -- along either edge and back of the screen lid and along the base chassis. The laptop's palmrest has a honeycomb-like hexagonal texture which feels nice.

The glossy screen lid surface of the MSI GT663R laptop smudges easily with fingerprints

On the exterior, the MSI GT663R is exactly like the MSI GT660, there's barely any difference. The two laptops, with a 9-cell battery pack, even weigh the same -- 3.5-kg. The MSI GT663R is strongly built, thick and heavy to carry around. While the MSI GT663R doesn't outshine the Alienware gaming laptop's swagger, the GT663R still holds its own in terms of looks in a LAN gaming party.

While the MSI GT663R can fit in a large laptop carry bag, towing it around is a mild workout in itself. The MSI GT663R's stellar Dynaudio speakers are placed above the keyboard on either side. There’s a convenient row of touchsensitive buttons above the MSI GT663R’s keyboard, and some connectivity ports are placed on the laptop’s spine. Overall, the MSI GT663R sports a nice, functional design.

The MSI GT663R gaming laptop comes with a 15.6-inch LED-backlit glossy 1366x768 resolution widescreen display. We aren't happy with MSI for not packing in a higher-resolution screen into the GT663R, sticking with the GT660's specs instead. In essence, the MSI GT663R's 15.6-inch screen offers the same pixel count as the 11.6-inch Alienware M11x gaming laptop. So the larger screen area isn't fully optimized on the MSI GT663R.

Having said that, the MSI GT663R's screen quality is pretty good -- apart from the glare, there were no complaints. The GT663R's glossy screen is nice and bright with decent contrast levels and vivid colors when viewed from front. Viewing angles are also decent. Like the GT660, the MSI GT663R gaming laptop comes with a HD webcam for videochats over the Internet, and it's better than we've seen in many mainstream laptops.
