Full Review

THE NEC NP200 is a compact projector. Clad in classic white, it looks pretty good, and like most projectors in this price bracket, it’s based on DLP technology.

The projector lacks any buttons, and the remote control doubles up as a control pad when it’s docked into the projector. This cuts down on redundancy, but what happens when you lose the remote? It doesn’t help that the remote is thin and slim, and hence easy to misplace.

The native resolution is 1024x768, and the lamp has a rated output of 2,100 ANSI lumens. The lamp life is quite high, at 3,500 hours at normal mode, and 4,000 hours at eco-mode. The menu system is quite easy to use. The projector does not have any standout features, but it has all the necessary features, and at this price point, we don’t expect too much.

The performance isn’t half bad either. The NP 200 projects a very bright image—we measured it at nearly 600 lumens in our test labs, and the contrast ratio was very high as well. The picture was jitter free, and in all the Display Mate tests it was able to reproduce the test patterns with no perceptible flaws. It did especially well in the white and grey level tests. Color quality was very good as well, and the NP 200 got near perfect scores on this front. This is quite rare for a projector in this price range, and it makes this a good fit to watch the occasional movie on.

The NP 200 does not compromise on quality. It falls neatly between the ultra compact projectors and the bigger, heavier ones, and for a small business, this is a very good fit.

Bottom Line

This portable projector combines good power and XGA resolution with a very attractive price.
