Full Review

Nokia’s second phone in this category shares a common trait with the N79- a hell lot of features. The N85 features a slide-out candy bar design similar to the N96 and is built with glossy plastic- a bit too glossy for our liking. Also although the phone feels sturdy, once it slides out its build quality feels lacking and a bit shaky. The phone’s front is covered by a 2.6 inch OLED display that pumps out 16M colors at a resolution of 240x320.

Like the N79, the N85 also runs on the S60 V3 operating system. This keeps interface navigation speeds at a brisk pace and the 369 MHz ARM processer helps. The phone also features an accelerometer which means that the screen flips orientation according to the way you are holding it. This might be good for watching videos and browsing the web but the presence of an alpha numeric keypad means that messaging will have to be done with the phone upright.

The N85 has a 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a dual LED flash. The phone’s imaging capabilities is pretty good although it falls behind the N79. It excels when shooting portraits and outdoor scenes but in almost all photos lets noise leak in. On the other hand video recording and video playback are really good. Surprisingly, the audio playback was not up to the standards set by other Nseries phones as the mids sounded subdued.

The N85 costs Rs. 18,500 and thanks to its great interface and good imaging capabilities, it fits into our Top 5.

Bottom Line

The other Nokia in the top 5 also has a 5MP camera and an LED flash. It uses a colorful 2.6 inch AMOLED display.
