Nokia seems to be going all-out to fight intense competition from the sub 10k touchscreen phones (read Android). Their latest effort is the touch-and-type series of mobile phones which feature a touchscreen coupled with an alphanumeric keypad/QWERTY keypad.

The X3-02 is a part of this series and it tries to woo the masses with the new touch-and-type feature, a sleek design, good connectivity options and the age-old Nokia reliability. The innovation is praise-worthy but let us sees whether Nokia actually manages to change the rules of the game with the X3-02.

The Haptic feedback that Nokia has implemented on the X3-02 is impressive because it was very responsive and gave the perfect feedback for every touch.

Features & Specs

The Nokia X3-02 runs on a version of Symbian Series 40 operating system which is customised for the 2.4 inch TFT resistive touchscreen of the phone, which has a native resolution of 240x320 and can display 256K colours. The phone has an alphanumeric keypad but no D-pad. The box contained a comprehensive bundle consisting of a charger, earphones, user guide, 2GB memory card and a USB cable to connect to a PC/MAC. A very good addition to the feature set on the X3-02 is the support for USB On-the-go, which means that the phone can act as a host for your pen-drives, external hard disks etc.

The X3-02 has a 3.5mm jack provided for earphones/headphones and a microUSB port. There is no hot-swappable memory card slot which is not much of a deal but is definitely a negative point since the X2-01 at a much lower price point had one. The X3-02 supports memory cards up to 32GB.

The phone has the basic apps like a calendar, stopwatch, converter, OVI store and world clock. Nokia has also bundled a few extras like Shazam and Size Converter. The X3-02 also has two touch-based games - Climate Mission and Hip Hop Tour.
