Full Review
The Philips MMS 460 speakers have been in the market for years and they are still making some noise in the barely flooded 5.1 speakers market. From their mean look to the rather short spec list, the MMS 460 still offers reasonable sound quality at a reasonable price.
With the stylish looking single driver satellites each rated at 10 watts RMS rating and the 30 watts front firing subwoofer, the total power output is 80 watts RMS. There was no remote control but bass and volume controls are provided. It also did not have the pseudo surround mode, meaning the stereo audio would be heard only on the two front channels if your soundcard does not feature this feature.
Dialogues were heard clearly and the highs are sufficient but once again the mids lacked depth. However, the sub sounded good while playing games and watching movies.
We tried the Gaming first, and the MMS 460 sounded clear with very less distortion. Dialogues were heard clearly and the highs are sufficient but once again the mids lacked depth. However, the sub sounded good while playing games and watching movies. The soundstage was not as great as what we heard with the Logitech X540, but sufficient.
Overall experience for surround sound was fairly good with this set. For music, it’s a different story though, the MMS 460 lacked transparency. We missed the warmth and articulation in the lower frequency range. This was because the sub was underpowered and hardly coped up with the rest of the channels. This made the MMS 460 a more entertainer for gaming and movies.
Bottom Line
Rough looking set of surround speakers for your action games and movies at a reasonable price.
