Can a color laser printer that costs very little offer commendable performance and features? That’s the first thought that crossed our minds when we got hold of this impressive printer (surprisingly, Samsung projected it as a consumer product on their site.) But when we put it through the grind in our lab, it proved that it pretty much lived up to what it promised.
The CLP-315 performed impressively notching up good scores in every test. It printed in black and white at 16ppm (pages per minute) with a standard spool time of 16 seconds. It also did a fairly good job in the A4 color print speed test clocking a reasonable 45 seconds but the quality of the print was just above average. It also printed PowerPoint slides and Excel sheets well but failed to make a mark in the PDF print test (we used a 10 page comic book) clocking a very high 200 seconds. As for text print quality, there were no visible white areas in the text with smooth edges, and a reasonable print contrast against the paper.

Feature-wise it comes with all the standard specifications for a normal SMB laser color printer. It came with onboard memory of 32 MB RAM with no expansion possible. For the most part, it lagged behind the others like a low output tray capacity of 100 pages, monthly duty cycle of only 20,000 pages, blank ink yield of 1,500, and a very high power draw of 350 watts. The network feature comes with support for generating reports of printing usage on the network and also has an option for permitting or restricting printing access to a particular or range of IP address.
The cost of running was the lowest at Rs 1.30 per black text page.
So, even though the CLP-315 was not that feature-rich, it has an unbelievably low price, excellent performance, and low running cost. If you are looking for a super cheap color laser printer that performs nicely despite being light on features, then the Samsung CLP-315 will fit nicely in your home-office space.
