It is almost impossible to find a multifunction printer that you can get for under Rs 10,000 and even if you did get one you might still doubt if it will have enough features and performance to even use it for everyday use. Samsung’s SCX-4300 is a monochrome laser printer that has copier, scanner, and printer functionality which comes at an unbelievable price of Rs 8,900 and also gives you a reasonable set of features and performance.
On the features and specification side, there was nothing much to talk about since it came with standard specifications like an input and output tray capacity of 250 and 150 pages respectively, 8 MB in-built memory with no support for further expansion, USB interface, a manual feed slot, support for up to 600dpi printing resolution and scanning resolution of 600 x 2,400dpi. But it has an interesting feature that other similar printers doesn’t come with - the ID Card Copy function that allows copying of both sides of an ID card or small document onto a single sheet of paper and it works quite well. It even has support for printing out big posters and an option for adding watermark to your prints.
It is almost impossible to find a multifunction printer that you can get for under Rs 10,000 and even if you did get one you might still doubt if it will have enough features and performance to even use it for everyday use.
As for performance, it did quite well for such a low-priced MFD printer. It has an acceptable 14ppm (pages per minute) and 15 seconds spool time. Scanning an A4 B/W document at 150dpi didn’t take too long at 9 seconds but it was on the slower side while doing a color scan (97 seconds at 600dpi and 31 second at 300dpi). Copying the same document took only 10 seconds. The print copy, and scan quality were reasonably good and comparable to other printers priced a little higher. The running cost is also quite low at Rs 1.5.
Bottom Line
The Samsung SCX-4300 is best suited for those who want a MFD laser printer that doesn’t cost a bomb but at the same time offers reasonable features and performance.
