Full Review
Close on the heels of the Sony DSC WX1, the stylish Sony CyberShot DSC-TX1 came out as a capable compact camera that is almost at par with our winner, the WX1. The slim and stylish TX1 has a good build with a sliding lens cover on the front and a large 3-inch touchscreen viewfinder at the back. The camera weighs 142g and was easily pocketable. The TX1 has the same Exmor R CMOS sensor seen on the WX1, but uses a fairly ordinary 35mm lens with 4x optical zoom.
Sony also provided its own Optical SteadyShot for image stabilization. Controls and buttons are scant on the TX1, thanks to the 3-inch LCD screen which takes care of most of the controls. Even though it has the non-wide angle lens, the TX1 still carries all the notable features we’ve seen on the WX1. Various useful shooting modes, burst shots at ten frames per second, sweep Panorama and HD (720p) video recording are available. The touchscreen was responsive and we soon got used to its uncomplicated menu.
The TX1 impressed us with its great color reproduction which is at par with our winner, the WX1. We did not face any issue with focusing and shutter-lag which was as fast as the WX1. Colors were vibrant with good details, without noticeable noise in low lights. White balance was also very accurate and at par with our winner. Images captured in low lights upto ISO 400 did not show any blatant noise. Low light performance, especially with its Twilight mode was impressive. Image stabilization also worked well as on the WX1.
It also captured impressive HD video which had well saturated colors and decent frame rates. The sweep Panaroma featured worked impressively. The Sony TX1 which is priced at Rs 20,990 is the costliest in the comparison but what we got was excellent imaging and HD video capability in a stylish and compact body.
Bottom Line
This sleek and stylish model performed very well with its intelligent sensor. The large touch screen LCD is also a big plus.
