Full Review
The Vivitek D735VX put up a very strong showing in our tests. Over the past year and a half, Vivitek has consistently impressed us with a very no-frills, solid, unassuming approach. For business projectors, this approach works very well, because Vivitek has focused on improving picture quality.
In terms of features, the Vivitek does have one unique feature, but this is not really related to the picture itself. This was the only projector with a detachable control panel. Besides being detachable, the control panel is also specific to each projector, so you cannot, for example, just plug in a control panel from another D735VX and start it up. This does, however, open up the possibility of rendering the projector useless, in case you lose the control panel.
In our DisplayMate tests, this projector did exceptionally well, with the best scores of all the five.
In our objective tests, the D735VX acquitted itself rather well. The 3200 lumen lamp was the brightest amongst all the projectors, and it showed, with the picture lighting up the dark conference room. Color quality was quite good, though not the best. In the Display Mate tests, this projector did exceptionally well, with the best scores of all the five.
In fact, this projector made a strong case for being the best of the five overall, but the NP-40 won due to its lower price and the unique features it had. If however, you don’t see a need for those features, and just want a really bright, high-quality projector, you won’t go wrong with the Vivitek D735 VX.
Bottom Line
A very bright and clear image, but the higher price, and the lack of any unique features nudged the Vivitek D735VX down a notch compared to the NEC NP-40.
