Entry level monitors have only one agenda: deliver an acceptable performance at an affordable price. And the Zebronics ZEB-LCD-A20B 20-inch monitor does that quite well. If you're looking for a monitor with fancy features and excellent performance, this isn't one.

The Zebronics A20B is a 20-inch widescreen LCD monitor. It is encased in matte black plastic with a shiny piano-black finish all along the bezel and the stand. The LCD display is based on a TN panel and has a glossy exterior. It supports a maximum screen resolution of 1600x900 pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Pretty much every 20-inch LCD monitor these days comes with this native widescreen resolution and aspect ratio as it is ideal for watching high-definition movies. The build quality of the monitor is pretty good, the stand is sturdy and very easy to fit in the panel--unlike our experience with the Samsung 2233SW we reviewed earlier. We didn't quite like the monitor's control buttons placed on its back panel--you tend to fumble every time you have to tweak a setting. It's only a matter of getting used to it, though.

The monitor comes with a single VGA port--no DVI, no onboard speakers, no webcam, and therefore no extra features to write home about. After calibration, the Zebronics A20B didn't disappoint us with its performance. Its brightness levels through DisplayMate's tests (187cd/m2) was lesser than what it claims, but contrast ratio was good. Color reproduction was also good. There was noticeable backlight bleed but nothing to spoil the overall experience. Its viewing angles aren't perfect but acceptable, and while we watched HD movies and gamed on the Zebronics A20B, there was no ghosting or blurring to speak of.

Bottom Line

The only thing that the Zebronics A20B lacks is maybe a DVI port. But otherwise this is a good value for money 20-inch widescreen monitor under Rs. 7,000.
